Jennifer Moses
Jennifer Moses’ paintings reflect the essence of her subject, the emotionally symbolic aspects of nature. “I find myself on a never-ending journey of inquiry and observation,” she says. “Communicating a meaningful connection through the visual poetry of painting is my greatest desire as an artist, and the process for me is a celebration of beauty and the interrelatedness of all things.”
Moses was born in the Midwest but spent most of her early years in Virginia. She received her B.F.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University and shortly thereafter moved to New York City, immersing herself in the city’s art scene. In 1994, she relocated to California and embarked on furthering her studies in the plein air tradition. Her observations in the field contribute to more in-depth explorations in the studio, where thoughtful compositions unfold through her unique application and layering of paint.
As a contemporary landscape artist, Moses has exhibited her paintings at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, the Pasadena Museum of California Art, Carnegie Museum of Art, USC Fisher Museum of Art, the Frederick R. Weisman Museum, and the Hilbert Museum of California Art. She is a Signature Member of the American Tonalist Society and the California Art Club and her work has been published in Western Art & Architecture, Art of the West, Southwest Art, Fine Art Connoisseur, and American Art Collector magazines. She received the Edgar Payne Award for Best Landscape at the California Art Club’s 103rd Annual Gold Medal Exhibition at the Autry Museum of the American West and the Curator’s Choice Award and the Patron’s Choice Award at the 2019 inaugural American Tonalist Society exhibition at the historic Salmagundi Club in New York City.
Moses is represented by American Legacy Fine Arts (Pasadena, CA), Del Monte Fine Art (Carmel, CA), Gallery Estella (New Orleans, LA), and Mockingbird Gallery (Bend, OR).
