Thomas Kegler
Thomas Kegler’s growing volume of work, considered to be among the most influential of our time, embodies a confident humility obtained from a life spent outdoors. The wilds of New York State and a close-knit family of designers and entrepreneurs shaped his early love of art and the outdoors. Fly fishing and guiding in Alaska’s backcountry cemented his pursuit of a life path illuminated more often by sunlight than lamplight.
As a self-taught painter in the classical realist tradition, Kegler has become internationally recognized for his oil paintings of landscapes, still lifes, and figures. His work is inspired and informed by a long-standing reverence for the Old Masters’ approach to the canvas, plein air techniques, and a deep Catholic faith. Each piece celebrates creation’s grandeur and mystery through careful attention to often-overlooked subtleties. His expressions of life’s nuances are guided by revisiting these processes and techniques in light of classical and contemporary subjects.
In addition to his work as a professional painter, Kegler is also an accomplished educational film producer and respected art educator and champion of future artists, young and old. He is recognized as a Living Master by the Art Renewal Center and is also a Roycroft Master Artisan, a member of the Salmagundi Club, and a Senior Fellow/Instructor with the Hudson River Fellowship. His work is showcased in galleries, collections, and publications worldwide, including Plein Air Magazine and American Arts Quarterly.
Kegler is represented by Beacon Fine Arts Gallery (Red Bank, NJ), Edgartown Art Gallery (Martha’s Vineyard, MA), Meibohm Fine Arts (East Aurora, NY), Tree’s Place Gallery (Orleans, MA), and Oxford Gallery (Rochester, NY).
